Shankar Mahadevan & Zakir Hussain lift Grammy Award 2024 for 'Shakti'

Los Angeles: Indian artists Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's fusion ensemble 'Shakti' won the Grammy Award 2024 for 'Best Global Music Album' being hosted in Los Angeles on Monday.

The Fusion Band bags this award for their current album, 'This Moment'. 'This Moment' marks a significant milestone as it is the group's first new album in over 45 years. The album boasts eight new compositions by the talented lineup comprising John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

 

In a photo uploaded to the Grammys' official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, are shown on stage receiving the prize. "Happy to announce 'This Moment' Shakti as the winner of the Best Global Music Album. #GRAMMYs," the Grammy said.

 

Mahadevan expressed gratitude to God, family, friends, and India, expressing pride in their achievements, and dedicated the award to his wife, whom he dedicates every note of his music.

Accused in firing outside Salman Khan's house case wants to turn approver

Mumbai: A person facing MCOCA charges in connection with the firing outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence in Bandra suburbs here has expressed his desire to turn approver in the case, sources in the Mumbai Crime Branch said.   Without disclosing the identity of the accused, the sources said that one of those arrested in the April 14 shooting case and facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has express his desire to be an approver and necessary procedure prescribed under the law has been set into motion.   As per procedure, the probe agency will first record the accused's confession before a high ranking officer not part of the ongoing investigation, and later the same will be recorded before a magistrate, the sources added.   The confessional statement will be the part of evidence and it will be used against him as well as other accused facing charges, they said.   On Monday, three accused arrested in the case were sent
