Javed Akhtar to deliver Vijay Tendulkar Memorial Lecture During PIFF

Pune: Acclaimed poet, lyricist, screenplay writer and social activist Javed Akhtar will deliver the Vijay Tendulkar Memorial Lecture during the upcoming Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). Amit Deshmukh, Minister for Medical Education and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra would be the Chief Guest for the inaugural function of the 20th PIFF being jointly organized by the Pune Film Foundation and the Government of Maharashtra between March 3rd and 10th. This was announced by Dr. Jabbar Patel, veteran filmmaker and the festival director of PIFF during a Press Conference held in the city today. Samar Nakhate - Creative Director of PIFF, Prakash Magdum – Director NFAI and Meghraj Rajebhosale, President of the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal were present on the occasion. Trustees of the Pune Film Foundation including Satish Alekar and Sabina Sanghvi along with the members of the Film Selection Committee Makarand Sathe and Abhijeet Randive were also present.

Kartik Aryan lauds mother for winning battle against cancer

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan has hailed his mother Mala Tiwari, who contracted breast cancer four years ago, for fighting a tough battle against the dreaded disease and emerging victorious out of it. Sharing a post, along with a video on his Instagram handle on Thursday, Kartik said the "journey had been arduous but her positivity, fortitude and fearlessness kept him going." As part of the ongoing National Cancer Awareness Month, an event was held at a Mumbai hospital, where Kartik spent time with cancer survivors. Bheemla Nayak: Chandrababu Naidu slams YSRCP govt for imposing restrictions

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday slammed the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh for imposing 'politically motivated restrictions' on the Bheemla Nayak film starred by Janasena Party Chief K Pawan Kalyan.   Mr Naidu alleged that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was targeting and victimising each and every sector in the state. No stay on release of Gangubai Kathiawadi; SC dismisses plea of adopted son

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a plea by Babuji Rawji Shah, who claimed to be the adopted son of Gangubai, seeking a stay on the release of Bollywood movie "Gangubai Kathiawadi".   "We dismiss the petition," a Bench headed by Justice Indira Banerjee said.   The film is set for release in Friday. The appeal against the Bombay High Court's order rejecting a similar relief was filed by Shah. Senior lawyer Aryama Sundaram for the film makers said: "We are dealing with a case where the film has not been seen yet."   Sundaram submitted that the objection cannot be to the title. "You cannot object to name of a person in the film. The objection can be that the film is defamatory to the person and for that the film has to be watched in entirety and not in bits and pieces."   He said the film was made in a proper manner and "no content of it is defamatory in nature." Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan to debut as writer for Amazon Prime web series, Red Chillies film: Report

Mumbai: Bollywood's 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan is set to make his debut in the film industry, but not as an actor rather as a filmmaker.   The 24-year-old has made it clear that he has no interest in acting, rather his inclinations tilt towards the creative side of film making.   In 2020, Aryan graduated from the University of Southern California obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Cinematic Arts, Film and Television Production.   It seems time has come for him to put his education to use.   Aryan is reportedly in talks with an OTT platform for a web series and is also working on a feature film, which will be produced by SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment.   The script of the web series will reportedly be along the lines of "Fan" and he is working on the project with Bilal Siddiqi.   SRK has not been shy from being vocal about his son's interest in the creative aspects of film making and his love of writing as wel

Justin Bieber tests Covid positive, Justice Tour postponed

Las Vegas: Justin Bieber is the latest celebrity to catch Covid-19, forcing postponement of his Justice Tour.   The pop star was scheduled to perform in Las Vegas as part of his 'Justice World Tour' at T-Mobile Arena, but the show has been delayed following his illness.   The social media team of T-Mobile Arena also issued a statement about the same.   "Due to positive COVID results within the Justice Tour family, we will, unfortunately, have to postpone Sunday's show in Las Vegas. Justin is of course hugely disappointed, but the health and safety of his crew and fans is always his number one priority. The tour launch in San Diego was a massive success, and Justin is excited to bring this spectacular show to his Las Vegas fans as soon as possible," the statement read.   The concert will now take place on June 28, 2022. Gangubai Kathiawadi: Kamathipura resident move HC against use of area name in film

Mumbai: Residents of Kamathipura area in south Mumbai, widely considered as one of the "red light areas" have filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking deletion of the area name from the Alia Bhatt starrer "Gangubai Kathiawadi" that is set to release Friday.   The plea suggests the film defames the entire area as "red light area" and "all women living there as prostitutes".
