Bollywood lauds Avani Lekhara's gold medal clinch at Tokyo Paralympics

Mumbai: Actors Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Arjun Rampal among others on Monday celebrated shooter Avani Lekhara's win at the Paralympics in Tokyo after she became the first Indian woman to clinch a gold medal at the Games. 

In a tweet, Akshay Kumar said, ''Congratulations Avani Lekhara for hitting the bullseye and creating history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a Paralympics gold medal Sports medal. What a debut!".


 
Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, "A gold-en moment for India! Hats off Avani Lekhara on becoming the first Indian woman to win gold at Tokyo Paralympics."


 
Actor Randeep Hooda wrote in tweet, ''First ever women’s Gold in shooting Paralympics bravo #AvaniLekhara #TeamIndia.''


 
Arjun Rampal wrote, ''Congratulations to Team India Flag of India at the #ParalympicsTokyo2020 it’s raining medals and you all have made us all so so proud. Latest a gold for @AvaniLekhara in 10m air rifle. Awesome stuff.''


 
Avani is the fourth Indian athlete to win a Paralympics gold.
 
In the past, Swimmer Murlikant Petkar (1972), javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia (2004 and 2016) and high jumper Thangavelu Mariyappan (2016) had won gold for the country. (UNI)

Accused in firing outside Salman Khan's house case wants to turn approver

Mumbai: A person facing MCOCA charges in connection with the firing outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence in Bandra suburbs here has expressed his desire to turn approver in the case, sources in the Mumbai Crime Branch said.   Without disclosing the identity of the accused, the sources said that one of those arrested in the April 14 shooting case and facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has express his desire to be an approver and necessary procedure prescribed under the law has been set into motion.   As per procedure, the probe agency will first record the accused's confession before a high ranking officer not part of the ongoing investigation, and later the same will be recorded before a magistrate, the sources added.   The confessional statement will be the part of evidence and it will be used against him as well as other accused facing charges, they said.   On Monday, three accused arrested in the cas...
